Koe-Nara

Koe-Nara is an Aboriginal word meaning family. The Schools as Community Centres initiative is funded by Families NSW. They provide services for families with children aged up to 8 years.  Services include:

  • playgroup for local families
  • playgroup for parents under 25
  • reading to children at Cessnock Market Place and at selected homes
  • presents early literacy information to local schools and early childhood settings
  • parent library and book exchange
  • baby clothes exchange
  • fruit and vegetable co-op
  • parenting programs
  • support group for first-time parents
  • activities for dads and their children
  • transition programs for students starting school next year
